Wimberley Trade Days
Ok ya'll so I am so excited. My friend Donna and are I going to be setting up a booth at Wimberley Trade Days in Wimberley, Texas. Donna makes NO SLIP headbands. Yes NO SLIP. She wears them to workout and everything and they stay put.
I am making shabby chic/romantic creations. To include: lamps, bags, flowers, barrettes, some home goods, small furniture pieces, silhouettes, stockings, hats, frames and whatever else I can get painted and transformed before next weekend.
The event is taking place on September 1st so come out and join us.
Here is a sneak peak of my very messy studio right now as I work on stuff for you!!!

Shabby Chic Table Refinish
Refinish your kitchen table!!!
Ok so I love my "new" table. I had this great table from Pottery Barn but I never really loved the finish just the price.... yes I loved my Pottery Barn price. I bought it at the outlets in San Marcos about 6 years ago... the original price was $1250 but I got it for $250 as it had a couple irregularities. Wahoo!!!!
I decided to strip the entire table... My husband absolutely loved helping me carry this very heavy 12 foot solid wood table outside... Ha!!! I used both a chemical stripper and a sander but after finally getting the top cleanly stripped I decided that the legs would look great painted white.... I then made my own "chalk paint" and painted right over the black non sanded legs.... yes chalk paint is wonderful no prep work required.. After the paint dried I then took my very tired sander and rubbed off some of the white to reveal the original black and some of the wood color underneath.... To make the top resistant to my kiddos I used a Beeswax and Citrus oil product and rubbed it in... The directions said to then rub off the rest after sitting for a few minutes but the wood soaked it up nicely so I left it... as is...The Beeswax/Orange oil worked well... my son got sharpie on it today and it rubbed right off with a magic eraser, I made him do the scrubbing ;)

Living room transformation in progress
Ok so when we moved in this house the living room was a very very dark green not horrible but not for me.... I wanted to lighten the room up and even neutralize it so that I'd be able to use whatever colors my mood swings me to. I think the new color is a huge improvement!!!!! I'm working on more stuff for the living room and I'll be posting that as I get to it.... The cabinet under the tv... was a goodwill redo... the two chairs in the top pic were $19 each at goodwill.. I also have plans for them. Check back in later to see which project I've decided to get done...
Felt Flower Scarves
Felt Rose Scarves.....
First I cut Circles out of the felt you'll want 3 different sizes and about 15-20 of each size depending on the length of scarf you want to make. I'd recommend 5" ,4" and 3" circles. After you cut the circles you may want to cut around them to make them a little wavy to add dimension to your flowers.
I then cut three different sizes of tulle circles. (4 1/2" and 3 1/2" and 2")
I burned the edges of the tulle with a candle to make the edges curl.
After you have all the circles cut and burned, layer your flower pieces.
Fold the flower in half and sew through the middle. Do this a few times so that it is very tight and will hold.
Open up the flower and fold in half again the other way... Repeat the sewing this direction...
Open up the flower and sew some beads into the center to add some sparkle.
Repeat this with all of your flowers .
After you've completed the flowers cut yourself a 4"wide strip of felt to the length that you would like your scarf to be.
Start tacking the flowers to the felt scarf to get your spacing right...
Now pull the layers of your flower up and sew around the flower very close to the inside to attach it firmly to the scarf.. I then found that it was helpful to kinda pull on the thread so that the flower will pucker... now hold firmly and knot your thread....
Voila... a couple of hours later you will have a beautiful scarf.... Yes it takes a little while to make but the results are beautiful.
My first attempt I used 6 layers of felt on the flowers and that took forever and the flowers didn't gather as well since they were so heavy so I played and camed up with my 3 felt 3 tulle version. You could also use some poly satin in between the layers but I would also burn the edges to make them curl and keep them from fraying.

Refinish The Cabinets
Ok so as I've mentioned I move every 2-3 years. So I am recreating my third house in six years. I felt that my kitchen was too dark. Dark cabinets, black granite, not much window light.... so..... I decided to refinish the cabinets. (I have done this before in my last house but this time was much easier, by the time my husband retires from the army I'll be able to refinish cabinets in my sleep!!!)
Rustoleum has come out with a great kit for cabinet refinishing the kit includes everything you need except the brush.. (hey that might be a good thing to add!!!) The kit is called Cabinet Transformations...
Step ONE.... degloss your cabinets and doors, the pad and deglosser are included in the kit!!! Apply deglosser liberaly to the scrubby pad and scrub the doors with lots of elbow grease...I rinse the pad out frequently as it takes on the poly that you are taking off the cabinets.. I tend to do this step while the doors are still up after I've cleaned up from dinner...Make sure you do inside and out.... I prefer to do this a couple of times just to be sure its good and deglossed... I'd hate to do all the work just to have it peel off later because I was to hurried to be thorough...(I've been know to hurry through since I always want it done now!!!)
Step TWO..... I would remove the cabinet doors and take off all hardware.
It is a good idea to label all doors and hardware (don't forget to label inside the cabinet so you'll remember where door #2 goes)
Step THREE... would be to lay all the cabinet doors and drawers out flat with the back side facing up.... Now you can start to paint with the bonding coat... this is your primer and paint all in one.. It really does work!!! You'll want to apply one thin coat wait for it to dry to touch then apply a second coat...(I used a good quality foam brush for this step) You can paint the cabinet frames while you wait for the first coat to dry.... well, step three is a little long because after you've applied two coats and let them dry you need to turn the door over and repeat on the front... Don't forget to do the edges of the doors and be careful not to let it drip...
Step FOUR... after all your doors and frames are dry you can now apply the antiquing glaze .... This step is optional. However, I've found that it looks very nice and tends to help hide and mistakes or brush marks or drips that happened during step three..The kit includes some gauze cloth to use for this step, but I've found I like a simple terry cloth shop towl better... (sorry rustoleum) You simply brush on the glaze, going heaver in the seams, then rub it off lightly with a dampened cloth. Repeating until you get the desired look. (don't forget the frames) I let this step dry much longer to make sure I wouldn't smear it when doing step SIX
Step FIVE... The least fun step... I chose to replace all the hardware and put the cabinet doors back on at this point so I could see the doors up in the kitchen to make sure I had the glazing and paint just how I wanted it.
Step SIX.. After everything has had a few hours to dry you can apply the Protective Top Coat.... I did this step before I went to bed (after getting the kids down so they couldn't touch) that way it had hours to dry before anyone would be in the kitchen asking for breakfast.. You'll want to make sure that your brush is very clean so that you don't get any gunk on your cabinets. Apply a very thin careful coat being careful not to go over any spots you've already top coated. Now go to bed and get some rest....
Step SEVEN... Wake up and enjoy... you may also find that you missed a few spots with the top coat and now that it is dry you can add another thin coat where needed. (once again I would do this before heading off to sleep)
I love the result....I'll probably keep posting pictures as I get better with camera lighting etc...I'm working on window treatments and then I'll be moving onto the next room... I'll also post pictures of my last kitchen once I find them...(that time I had to research and find all the products myself... I was still happy with the results but I do worry that it didn't adhere as well) Only time well tell and yes we do still have that house with renters in it as when Army says time to move off we go...
So tune in later for the final result and my last redone kitchen and I finally came up with a solution for the ugly pendants that hang over my island....

Music Room
I wanted a wall of mirrors and I just kept looking at thrift stores until I found enough to fit the wall. I like how it looks for now but I'm pretty sure that I'll be refinishing some of the mirrors. (some have already been painted) The 115 year old antique piano is my favorite. It was filthy and black when I got it but it has surpassed my dreams... All of the furniture pieces have been repainted. The old window panes I've had for years and yes they were FREE...Someone had replaced the windows in their house and trash day made them mine!!! I could go on all day about all the great finds and refinishes in this room but you'll just have to wait for another day...

sizzix blog hop
Welcome to Eileen Hulls Fresh Vintage Blog hop. I was asked by my friend Bonnie to make something with Eileen Hull's Vase Die. We decided together to make crowns. I have an eight year old daughter who wanted to help so we made ours little girly with silver and bling.
1. Adelaide drew a design
2. Cut out three of Eileen's Vase Dies
3. Spray Painted the pieces
4. Added Bling in an alternating pink and white pattern (Adelaide's plan) and attached the round piece to the inside
5. We added sequin trims and rosette ribbon.

Pop-Up Valentine's Cards with Karen Burniston dies
Hey there time to make some valentine cards with Karen's dies.
First I'm used the 3-D Hear Card to make a Butterfly greeting. My daughter and I glittered the "wings" and also used some valentine doilies to give the wings some dimension. We added antennae and googly eyes to the pop-up head to make the butterfly sweet. I really like this die.
Adelaide also used the plain heart portion of this die to make her valentines for her class... We just cut a bunch of them she attached a glittery doily and stuck a lollipop in between the two pieces. Voila simple and hand made.
The next card is using Karen's "Hearts-A-Plenty 3-D Pop-Up Die." Since I've only used pop-ups a couple times I definitely needed to read the directions but once I followed them step by step it was a breeze. We are a military family and finally live in a place that has snow so I played on my kids' love of snow...to send "snow much love" to family. Once assembled I placed the die in a simple card using frosty colors and a couple dangly snowflakes.

CHA Samples for Sizzix Designer Karen Burniston
Hey there I am sooo excited that I got to participate in this little adventure. Thank you Karen and Bonnie.
Ok so what adventure?? I got to make samples with brand new not even released die shapes designed by Karen Burniston for Sizzix. As I'm still new to blogging my text is all up here above the pictures so you'll have to scroll down and figure out which one I'm describing.
The first picture is a flower pop-up die that I have glittered and attached to a small gift box that I covered in coordinating paper and blinged the sides. When one pulls the stem the flower pops open and displays the text "a gift for you".
Next I have a card that I made with neutral colors for grandpa. On the front is one of Karen's new dies and then inside is her scalloped circle pop-up die and a small celebrate die. Both of these are also new dies.
Now for the colorful card with the butterfly on front. I actually made the butterfly with one of Karen's new flourish dies I simply used two and placed them together by one edge and twisted the top part so that it would look like antennae add a little bling and voila a butterfly. Inside of the card is Karen's new floating frames pop-up die and on top of the frame set I stapled her new fold out balloon die.
Ok next I made a simple scrapbook page using a new pull-out/pop-up tag die. I featured my twins with the neighbors dogs the four love each other so and I don't have to take care of dogs we just get to enjoy them I've even made one of Justus' chores to clean their pen and walk them. Also, cures them of begging me for a dog.
On to the next card fold out thingy I did. I am the most excited about this one. I actually used 7 of Karen's new die shapes for this fold out card. First the card is tri-fold so that I could use two pop-up dies. In the center of the card is a pop-up cupcake die that I embellished with satin flowers that I made myself by burning circles of satin and sewing them together then added a few beads for a pretty center. At the top of the card I used a scalloped edge pop-up die that I put one of her small flourishes on to give my word SWEET a base. To the left of sweet I used a small round scalloped die as the base of my satin flower. On the top of the fold I used her new princess crown. On the outside of the card I used a couple flourish shapes. Ok I know there were seven but right now I am blanking on the last two as Karen has my card in LA.
Next I have a family wheel wallhanging using Karen's new photo wheel die. I put little pictures of my kids inside the wheel so that when you turn it you can see them and in their corresponding age in the circle. To the left of the circle I used a family picture that we took out in the woods. I sewed buttons around the picture to give it a little punch. We used a necklace chain to hang it with and created a little bauble using mismatched jewelry pieces that we got at the thrift stor to hang from the center of the chain.
All in all I'm relatively pleased with the results especially considering I only had a little over two days to get all this done. When I find my picture I will be posting a necklace I made for Karen to wear at the convention. I used one of her new dies on this one also!!!
